Italy, Toscana, Grosseto prov.,
Campiano mine
The
mineralized body of Campiano, consisting of massive pyrite and local
concentrations of Cu-Pb-Zn sulfides, which is also situated in proximity
(north) of the Boccheggiano fault. The mine - often classified as part of
the Boccheggiano vein - started officially in 1983 and it has been one of the most important; it
was closed in 2003/4.
Campiano, a small village, is 7/8 km far from Montieri and close to
Boccheggiano, another village famous for mine activity

Calcite
Big XX of calcite (edge up to 4 cm), unusually pink colored. The scalenohedrons
are covered by cream ankerite small XX, parallel and well
oriented (epitaxy?). Calcite is on a pyrite base

Fluorite
Fluorite X, with a sort of stepped cubic habit: it is another look
of the "modified cube" of previous picture, a combination of
cube and dodecahedron, with stepped corner.
It is a detail of a piece with
some Fluorite XX, deposited on a quartz matrix. Amongst
fluorite and quartz there are some small anhydrite white XX and some
dolomite. In my opinion, very nice piece
