Dossena fluorite

In this page, created in August 2007, I publish the photos of fluorite from the old mines of Paglio Pignolino, near the village of Dossena, a ore deposit with zinc, lead and fluorite (part of the important lead-zinc mining district In Orobic Prealps). Fluorite from this place is rarely cubic, more frequent it has a complex habit and typical are the XX with cubic shape but slightly rounded faces
The pieces from this mine are often coated by a white powder that is a mixture of hydrozincite, smithsonite and hemimorphite, called calamina (this is also the old name of smithsonite).
It is worth to remember that in the Dossena mineral district there is another mine (Vaccareggio mine) but I do not have pieces from it.
